The Story Behind My Passion for Fitness and Opening Aftermath Strength & Conditioning

Fitness has always been a huge part of my life, but the journey that led me to opening my gym wasn’t a straight line. It started back in high school, where I ran cross country and track. I loved the process of training, pushing myself, and competing. My senior year was the peak of my running career, but soon after, things began to shift.

As I transitioned into college, I was plagued by hip, knee, and foot injuries. What was once my outlet and passion had become a source of frustration. Running—something I had always loved—was slipping away from me.

That’s when I stumbled across CrossFit. At first, it was just a new way to stay active, but it quickly became so much more. CrossFit allowed me to build strength, move better, and—most importantly—train without pain. Over time, it nearly eliminated the injuries that had once held me back. For the first time in years, I felt capable again. I was hooked.

In 2009, I took a leap and opened my first gym. I wanted to share what CrossFit had done for me with others—helping people get stronger, healthier, and more confident in themselves. Seeing members accomplish things they once thought were impossible quickly became one of my greatest joys.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with hundreds of people from all walks of life: law enforcement officers, military personnel, teachers, accountants, kids, parents, grandparents, etc. No matter their background or fitness level, the common thread is that they all wanted to take steps toward becoming healthier and more capable. Watching each of them discover their potential has been one of the most rewarding parts of my career.

Fast forward to today, and I’ve planted deeper roots in Somonauk, where I’ve lived for the past nine years. This community means a lot to me—my kids go to school here, my family is part of the fabric of this town, and I saw a real need for a place where people could come together and pursue better health. That’s why I decided to open Aftermath Strength & Conditioning right here.

But opening this gym wasn’t just about the community—it was also about family. My kids are growing up, and I want them to be surrounded by people who value hard work, health, and fitness. I hope they’ll absorb those habits and see firsthand what dedication can help them achieve.

At the end of the day, I simply love fitness. I love the science of it, the challenge of it, and the way it transforms lives. Whether it’s helping someone lose weight, get off medications, or accomplish something they never thought possible, it’s an honor to walk alongside people in their fitness journey.

That’s why Aftermath Strength & Conditioning exists. It’s more than a gym—it’s a place for people to grow stronger, healthier, and more confident, no matter where they’re starting from.
